Iran planning to expand electricity exports to Afghanistan: Minister

Iran is planning to increase its electricity exports to Afghanistan by constructing a 220-kilovolt transmission line, said the energy minister.

Reza Ardakanian added, “Boosting electricity exports to Afghanistan and other neighboring states is part of a comprehensive plan for [expanding] economic cooperation with the neighbors,” IRNA reported.

“Thus, we are attempting to play our role in the development of the electricity industry of neighboring Afghanistan,” he noted.

Ardakanian added Iran has granted the permit to an Afghan bank to open a branch in the southeastern port of Chabahar to facilitate financial affairs within the framework of the two countries’ joint projects.
