Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei ordered related bodies to investigate into the deadly explosion at a medical center in northern Tehran stressing the need for preventing the repetition of similar incidents in the future.

Expressing condolences to the bereaved families of the victims, Ayatollah Khamenei urged in a message on Wednesday all concerned bodies to take “immediate measures and properly investigate” into the deadly incident at the medical center, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

The Leader also called on the related organizations and authorities to take action “to avoid occurrence of similar heartrending incidents and reduce their irreparable damages and casualties” in the future.

The tragic blast occurred at 20:56 Tuesday night (1626 GMT) followed by a fire at Sina At'har Clinic in the upmarket northern neighborhood of Tajrish. Fifteen out of the total 19 victims of the explosion were women, media reports said.

According to Tehran Fire Department spokesman Jalal Maleki, the explosion occurred as three gas canisters caught fire in the clinic's basement.

Earlier on Wednesay, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, in a message of condolences to the families of the victims, called on the authorities concerned to shed light "on the cause of the accident".

Tehran's Deputy Police Chief General Hamid Hadavand was quoted by state media as saying that four people were arrested regarding the explosion and are under investigation.
