Syrian Ambassador in Tehran Adnan Hassan Mahmoud reacted to the illegal interception of an Iranian airliner by US fighters on July 23 describing it as an act of aggression made “in line with US actions in support of terrorism.”

"The harassment of an Iranian Mahan airliner by two US warplanes flying over Syrian sky is an objective symbol of the US terrorist acts against civilians, including children and women, and a clear violation of international laws and agreements regarding civilian flights," said the ambassador.

"The act of aggression against Iranian airliner is in line with US actions in support of terrorism and the plunder of the wealth of the Syrian people," Mehr News Agency (MNA) quoted Mahmoud as saying on July 25.

Several passengers on the Mahan Air’s Flight 1152 heading from Tehran to Beirut were injured on Thursday after the pilot rapidly changed altitude to avoid collision with the US fighter jets that were dangerously approaching the passenger plane over Syrian sky.

The Syrian ambassador stressed the need for the withdrawal of the American occupying forces and other illegal foreign troops from Syria, arguing their presence threatens the security and stability of the region.

Reacting to US “adventurism” Iran’s Foreign Ministry said on July 24, “No hostile action against Iranian nationals will go unanswered.”

“Iran will give a firm and appropriate response to any unwise measure when the time is ripe,” Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, spokesman of the Foreign Minsitry said on Friday.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also condemned the ‘lawlessness’ of the United States which ‘endangered’ lives of civilians on board the Iranian airliner.

Earlier on Saturday, Lebanon and Iran said they will lodge complaints at international organizations against US for its terrorist act.

“All passengers on Mahan Air Flight 1152, Iranianand non-Iranian, can sue the terrorist US military – commanders, perpetrators, supervisors and deputies – in Iranian courts for moral and physical damages,” Ali Baqeri-Kani, head of Iran’s Judiciary’s Human Rights Office said.

In another development, Lebanese Health Minister Hamad Hassan denounced the incident as a “criminal intimidation” and “a blatant attack”, saying the ministry, on behalf of the passengers of Mahan Air’s Flight 1152, will sue Washington over mental and physical threats posed to passengers.
