Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a message, congratulated Muslims on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice) falling on July 31 this year, calling on the global community to sacrifice “short-sighted and selfish interests for survival".

"As we mark #EidAlAdha (Feast of the Sacrifice), let us all pray and commit ourselves to sacrifice what some—sadly—are willing to kill for: short-sighted, zero-sum and selfish interests," Zarif wrote on his  Twitter account on July 30, IRNA reported.

"Our #Ummah and our global community require this paradigm shift for survival," Zarif said.

Eid al-Adha is celebrated worldwide by Muslim community to commemorate the total submission of prophet Ibrahim to God's will for sacrificing his beloved son, Ismail.

The occasion is marked by collective prayers and donating meat, particularly to the needy people.
