Iran is on par with developed countries in the production of medical devices for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), said the director general of Research and Technology Development Office of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
Hossein Vatanpour also said that Iranian knowledge-based companies produce ventilators, CT scan machines, test kits, disinfectants, face masks and swabs. Their products have entered the domestic and international markets, he added.
He put the daily production of face masks at six million across the country, adding that face masks are considered to be one of the required products for preventing the pandemic.
Vatanpour said coronavirus test kits were produced within a month, adding currently diagnostic tests are conducted by using domestic kits.
He added that numerous labs across the country conduct tests using domestic kits.
He said specialized swabs required for coronavirus tests used to be imported. However, currently, one of the knowledge-based companies has succeeded in making them, he added.
Vatanpour noted that COVID-19 drugs including Favipiravir and Remdesivir have been produced across the country.
