“Normalization with Israel? The only thing that has been ‘normalized’ is this,” Zarif tweeted, referring to a photo posted on his Twitter account showing an Israeli soldier kneeling on a Palestinian’s head.
A video circulating on social media appears to show an Israeli soldier kneeling on an elderly Palestinian protester’s head while arresting him during a demonstration in the occupied West Bank.
Footage circulating on Tuesday shows an Israeli soldier pushing Khairi Hannoun, a 65-year-old Palestinian protester, to the ground as other troops raise their rifles and shout at a group of news photographers to back away. One projectile was fired, although it is not clear if it was a stun grenade or tear gas, according to Al Jazeera.
The soldier then wrestled Hannoun to the ground and kneeled on his head and back while putting him in handcuffs.
Hannoun said he was in Shufa village near the occupied West Bank town of Tulkarem, with dozens of demonstrators, who were protesting Israeli plans to confiscate some 800,000 square kilometers of land to build an industrial park.
The video shows Hannoun pushing an Israeli soldier after he snatched a Palestine flag from another demonstrator, setting off the scuffle.
It came days after the Unites States recently brokered an agreement aimed at establishing full diplomatic relations between the UAE and Israel.
All Palestinian factions have censured the peace deal as a stab in the back of the oppressed nation. The agreement has also drawn angry reactions from Muslim countries and other supporters of the Palestinian cause against Israeli occupation.
In turn, Iranian officials have lined up to denounce the UAE for betraying the cause of Palestine.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said the UAE has betrayed the entire Muslim world by normalizing ties with the Israeli regime, but that the betrayal will not last long, according to Press TV.
The UAE betrayed the world of Islam, the Arab nations, the region’s countries, and the important cause of Palestine, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
“Of course, this situation will not last long, and the stain of shame will remain on the face of those who forgot the occupation of this country [Palestine] and the displacement of the Palestinian nation and allowed the Zionists into the region.”
In mid-August, President Hassan Rouhani said the UAE made a “huge mistake” by making peace with Israel, warning Abu Dhabi about the consequences of allowing the Tel Aviv regime to secure a foothold in the region.
Zarif also said the “treacherous” deal would not affect the Palestinian resistance against the Tel Aviv regime.
