Bangladesh Dhaka festival 2021 to hold retrospective of Iranian filmmaker Derakhshandeh

The 19th edition of the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh will review four films by Iranian filmmaker, producer, screenwriter, and researcher Pouran Derakhshandeh.

‘Under the Smoky Roof,’ ‘Hush… Girls Don’t Cry,’ ‘Serial Dreams,’ ‘Little Bird of Happiness and the Eternal Kids’ will be reviewed in the Retrospective section of the 19th Dhaka festival to be held in Dhaka from January 16 to 24, 2021, dhakatribune.com reported.

Moreover, Derakhshandeh will hold masterclasses and workshops during the festival.

Necessary preparatory work for the first ever hybrid edition (having virtual as well as physical screenings) of the Dhaka festival is already underway. During the 19th edition of DIFF, organizers expect to screen about 200 films, with participation from around 60 countries.

Derakhshandeh graduated in film directing in 1975 from Advanced School of Television and Cinema in Tehran. She started her professional career by making documentary films for the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) channels.

She is a member of the International Center of Films for Children and Young People, American Association of Women in Film, American Association of Independent Feature Project, and the deputy head of the Iranian Cinema Directors Association.

She also served on the jury panel of various domestic and international film festivals.

The other sections of the Dhaka festival, which are competitive, include Asian Cinema Section, Retrospective, Bangladesh Panorama Section, Cinema of the World Section, Children Films Section, Women Filmmakers Section, Short and Independent Films Section and Spiritual Films Section.

The 19th DIFF, organized by Rainbow Film Society, will be held at the Alliance Francaise de Dhaka, Star Cineplex, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Central Public Library Auditorium and Bangladesh National Museum Auditorium.
