Trump’s aide: US has little options to impose new sanctions on Iran

Iran said on Monday it will never forget how the United States acted as a cruel collaborator” of the novel coronavirus by retaining its unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic at a time when the country is battling the deadly pandemic.

Corona's proven deadly, vicious & brutal everywhere, but it's worse in Iran as it has a cruel collaborator: US regime,” the Foreign Ministry tweeted.

The current US administration returned the sanctions that the previous regime had lifted. Washington took the move after leaving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a historic nuclear agreement that mandated the sanctions relief.

US President Donald Trump has been trying to justify the campaign under its signature Iran policy of maximum pressure.” His administration has also snubbed an International Court of Justice order on it to suspend coercive economic measures against food and medicine as well as other vital items such as plane parts.

Washington, meanwhile, keeps alleging that foodstuffs and medicinal products are exempt from the inhumane bans, a claim that Tehran strongly rejects.

US has elevated max pressure to Health Terrorism & targeted Iranian people with inhuman sanctions while they're fighting the pandemic,” the ministry said.

The ministry expressed certainty that Iran will eventually overcome” the virus, but will NEVER forget” US attempts at compounding the situation for Iranians.

Little' options

Trumps national security adviser told reporters on Sunday that the US has very little” options left to impose new sanctions on Iran.

Robert OBrien said the US has imposed so many sanctions” against Iran that it has faced problems” to introduce additional ones and has very little to do anything about it.”

OBrien accused Iran of trying to influence Americans” in the run-up to the November 3 presidential election in the US and efforts to hurt” Trump.

Iran has time and again rejected such allegations and stressed that the US presidential vote is a domestic issue.
