Zarif sympathizes with Turkish counterpart over deadly earthquake

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a message on Friday, expressed deep sympathy with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu over the deadly earthquake in the western city of Izmir earlier today.

Zarif wished immediate recovery for those injured in the fatal incident that has so far killed 4 and injured 120 others, IRNA reported.

He further voiced Iran’s readiness to deliver humanitarian aid to the quake-hit people of Izmir and provide any kind of assistance to this end.

According to Turkish media reports a 6.6-magnitute earthquake shook western coasts of the country at 15:21 local time, mostly rattling the city of Izmir.

Director of IRCS Rescue and Relief Organization Mehdi Valipour, said that immediately after the earthquake, the Red Crescent societies in five Iranian provinces of West Azarbaijan, East Azarbaijan, Ardebil, Kordestan which are close to Turkey, as well as Tehran have been put on standby to carry out rescue and relief operations in the Turkish quake-hit areas if needed.
