The classes comprise a collection of talks and transfer information session for interested documentarians, Mehr News Agency reported.
Due to a spike in the COVID-19 cases in Iran, the upcoming edition of the prestigious international cinematic event will be held online.
The master classes will focus on diverse topics such as personal and environmental documentaries, definitions and documentary boundaries.
One of the top international cineastes to conduct the master classes is Bill Nichols, who is an American film critic and theoretician best known for his pioneering work as the founder of the contemporary study of documentary film.
Nichols has delivered lectures in numerous countries, served as jury panel member in different film festival, gives regular consultations on a variety of filmmaking projects and has published over 100 articles.
The other one is Orlando von Einsiedel, who is a British documentarian. He has won numerous awards from several acclaimed global film festivals. He is a pioneer in making documentaries.
American filmmaker and producer Joe Berlinger is another cineaste to teach the master classes. Particularly focused on true crime documentaries, Berlinger's films and docu-series draw attention to social justice issues in the US and abroad.
British documentary filmmaker and anthropologist André Singer is also expected to lead the master classes. He is currently the CEO of Spring Films Ltd. of London and a professorial research associate at the London School of Oriental and African Studies. He is well known for a long collaboration with German filmmaker Werner Hertzog.
American historian and acclaimed writer Betsy A. McLane will be another teacher of the classes. She is the writer of ‘A New History of Documentary Film: Second Edition’.
Among the other top international cineastes is the American documentary film director, producer, writer, and editor Brett Morgen. He has won several awards from top film festivals and is a specialist in sport and environmental documentaries.
Phil Rees from Britain is also expected to lead the classes. He has won over 50 awards from different film festivals across the globe. He has also worked with BBC for over 23 years. He is the manager of Investigative Journalism in Aljazeera network.
Other top cineastes to lead the classes are American photographer and documentary film director Louie Psyoyos and American documentary filmmaker Doug Block.
In 2009, Psyoyos directed and appeared in the feature-length documentary ‘The Cove’, which won an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. He has also cooperated with National Geography for several years and is a top expert in the field of making environmental documentaries.
Block is best known for his work on the documentaries ‘51 Birch Street’ and ‘The Kids Grow Up’. His documentary ‘51 Birch Street’ was listed among the 10 Best Films of the Year by the New York Times. He is specialized in making personal documentaries.
Mohammad Hamidi-Moqaddam will be the secretary of Cinema Vérité to be held in Tehran.
