Zarif: Iran, UAE must think about regional stability
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) must strive to strengthen bilateral cooperation and enhance stability in the region under the existing circumstances.

“Others may take advantage of the current situation to destabilize the region, but we, as two neighbors, should think about regional stability,” Zarif said in a video call with his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Sunday.

Nayhan stressed the importance of bolstering cooperation and holding constant consultations to turn challenges into opportunities.

The two foreign ministers discussed cooperation on issues of common interests and regional developments and expressed readiness to expand relations in various fields to serve those interests.

In a post on his Twitter account later in the day, Zarif said he had “a very substantive, frank and friendly video conversation with” his Emirati counterpart.

He added that the two sides exchanged views on the deadly coronavirus pandemic in addition to bilateral, regional and global issues.

“We agreed to continue dialog on theme of hope – especially as region faces tough challenges, and tougher choices ahead,” Zarif tweeted.

According to UAE state news agency WAM, the top diplomats exchanged greetings for the Eid al-Adha Muslim feast and discussed efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic in the region.

Bin Zayed emphasized “enhancing international cooperation, solidarity and synergy between all countries” to tackle the virus.

The two ministers held a telephone call in March in which Sheikh Abdullah expressed the UAE’s support for Iran during the coronavirus outbreak.

Press TV, AFP and Reuters contributed to this story.
